
Spicy Bean Sprout Salad
A quick and vibrant bean sprout side dish with sesame oil and spices.
This spicy bean sprout salad is a simple yet flavorful side dish that brings together crunchy sprouts, nutty sesame oil, and a kick of seven-spice or five-spice seasoning. It’s fast, fresh, and perfect for serving with rice or grilled mains. The dish is ready in minutes but delivers layers of taste — from umami-rich soy to aromatic spice and toasted sesame.
Ingredients
- 340 g bean sprouts
- 2 Tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 1.5 tsp soy sauce
- 1.5 tsp shichimi togarashi (or Chinese five spice)
- 0.5 tsp salt (or more to taste)
- freshly ground black pepper
- 1 Tbsp toasted white and black sesame seeds (for garnish)
- chopped green onion or scallion (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
- Add the bean sprouts and cook for 1–2 minutes.
- Drain well to remove all excess water.
- In a large bowl, combine sesame oil, soy sauce, spice mix, salt, and black pepper.
- Add the cooked bean sprouts and mix thoroughly to coat.
- Top with toasted sesame seeds and chopped green onion if desired.
